The St. Vincent de Paul Society of Holy Rosary Catholic Church has extended its
humanitarian outreach to more than 450 poor and vulnerable persons as part of its
2026 Holy Week programme.
The outreach, held on Holy Saturday, April 3, 2026, formed a key component of the
parish’s Lenten activities, bringing relief to beneficiaries drawn from various
communities across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), including residents of
Internally Displaced Persons (IDP) camps.
Items distributed included staple food supplies, such as rice, beans, garri, tomatoes,
onions, groundnut oil, crayfish, and other soup ingredients, as well as clothing and
footwear.

The exercise was coordinated by the President of the Society, Sister Joy Onyema,
under the spiritual guidance of the Parish Priest, Very Rev. Fr. Kale Francis.
Speaking at the event, Sister Onyema described the initiative as a practical
expression of Christian charity. “Our outreach is a modest effort to support the poor
and vulnerable, in line with the teachings of our Lord Jesus Christ, who calls us to
care for those in need,” she said.

She expressed appreciation to parishioners for their generous contributions, noting
that their support made the intervention possible. Beyond periodic distributions, she
added, the Society also provides medical assistance and responds to other
humanitarian needs as they arise.

The Holy Week outreach builds on similar efforts carried out by the Society during
the 2025 Christmas season, reflecting the parish’s sustained commitment to social
responsibility and compassionate service.
